Unless you have an aversion to CZ's, a 527 Varmint 17 Rem seems to fit your description to a "T"! It has a detachable magazine, and has a 1/9 twist barrel that would enable shooting 30 grainers for coyotes and 20's & 25's for PD's and gofers! you can down-load to a 17FB/17MK4 performance or normal for the coyotes. This just seemed a Natural, after reading all you want from a new rifle.

I will need something for gophers in the spring. Is there a high end Rem 700 with detachable mag that comes in 17 fireball?
Don't think Rem. list a FB anymore, nor a 17Rem.

That's what I understood as well. On the 17 Rem...CZ still does.

i was looking for the same thing you are....17 fireball, detachable mag, available factory ammo and brass. i wasn't able to find what i was looking for, so i'm in the process of having one built on a cz 527. probably cheaper ways to go....but i'm a walnut and blued steel kind of guy, and i really want a detachable mag repeater. we'll see how it goes...still waiting on the barrel.

Remington still shows 5 model variations available chambered for the 17 Fireball but none with a detachable magazine. They do seem to have dropped the 17 Remington entirely, however.

That's cool, I was just wondering because I had heard rumors that they were both discontinued for 2012. But its just that...a rumor as I have not been able to confirm it yet. Hopefully someone can one way or the other.

Glad I bought a 17 fireball SPS lefthand last year...with a new Timney 1.5 lb trigger and a BDL short action LH stock instead of the plastic stock it came with....it shoots pretty darn good.

Sure vaporizes the starlings........gotta try it on Crows this winter..

On checking Rem UK; They list 6 models in 17FB and a 700BDL in 17Rem.
I'm pretty confident that's not right.
