sav12lrpv, you asked for comments about heavy bullets in the 20 PPC or 22 PPC...so here's my $.02 worth. I have quite a bit of shooting time with both the 20 PPC and 20 BR in the ground squirrel fields. I've been pleasantly surprised how well the 20 PPC (11 twist) compares to the 20 BR (9 twist) out to 600 yds, even in the wind. Last week I shot one of the Sage Rats at 562 yds with the 20 PPC in a 10-12 mph crosswind with the 40 gr V-Max. In my opinion it's just as good as the 20 BR with 55 gr Bergers out to those distances. Beyond that the 55 gr Berger in the 20 BR does better. It's my belief the 39 gr Sierra or 40 gr V-Max make up the difference over the 55 gr Berger because of the speed. I'm a b.c. bullet believer, but in this case the 39 or 40 gr bullets are better suited in the 20 PPC. I run the 55 gr Bergers at 3650 fps (20BR) at 4500' elevation and the 40 gr V- Max (20PPC) at 3900 fps +. Just my opinion. Good luck on your decision. 410gauge

My original 20ppc barrel was a 9 twist, so I was kind of committed to heavier bullets from the start. I was planning on 50 Bergers. I did experiment with 40g bullets. 40 vmax just wasn't accurate enough. 39bks came apart at a little over 3700fps because of the faster twist. 40 Bergers and 50 Bergers worked pretty good. When they discontinued the 50s, I went to the 55s and they shot very well. Then I got the new barrel with a 7 twist, and now we are back to the beginning of my story.

in the 20 cal the 50g berger are not very efficient..similar BC as the 39/40g and you loose 200fps! Now the 55g is another story as it has same BC as the 6mm 87VM but going 600fps faster (in 20BR).

Re the 40vm verses 55 berger running the ballisics at 500m:

bullet Veloc drop drift
40 3950 34.8" 28.8
50 3700 37.7 28.0
55 3600 34.9 21.0

so the 55g has 7" less drift than the 40vm at 500m...and SAME DROP

ok the ballisitcs for the 50g is not that bad now I look at it, assuming you can get 3700 out of them. I have 500 of them sitting on the shelf but never shot them as I burnt my 20BR barrel out in 1200 round

So in a 20Br the 55 is the way to go (IMO). you can push the 39/40 easily to 4200, but barrel life suffers, so I ended up backing off to 3950, which you can just about squeeze out of a 204 with double the barrel life. But the 55g has same drop, less drift, more downrange energy to see your missed, still explosive on small game out to 500m and easier on the barrel.

Once you go to 22/6mm cal, you are limited to plastic tipped vld's for small game. all the Bergers drill through.

for about a .22 BRK. I have the 6mm version this was before the Creedmoor became a thing.
