.17-204 ar barrel
Does anyone know who i can purchase a chambered barrel from with a no turn neck. Medium profile 22" threaded muzzle for 30 grain bullets. Want to stay with .204 to make necking down easier and will run a small brass catcher. Will a 204 sizer die without expander and then a bushing sizing die do the trick in 2 steps. Coyotes only. Getting the parts together. Thanks for the help. Ps. any other tricks will be appreciated, what mags, etc

Tony Rumore (sp?) of Tromix usually specializes in weird jobs like this. he'd be the first i'd ask. but no matter who you go with your likely going to have to rent/buy a reamer to get the job done.
Jim at apache gun works would also be a great cannidate. Last edited by squirrel_slayer; 04-06-2018 at 02:45 AM. |

17/204
"Will a 204 seater die without expander...'
Don't know about a seater die with an expander? Do you mean a size die without expander? I neck down my 17/204 cases with a 17 FB size die adjusted to just touch the sholder, but not set it back. For loading I size with a 204R Redding body die, then neck size with a Lee 17 Rem Collet die. A 204R Redding Competition seating die works just fine for bullet seating. Loading for an AR in 204R, I use a Redding 204R Body Die followed by a Lee Collet 204R die for neck sizing. Functions very well. I use regular 10 round AR .223 P-Mags for the 204R. 17/204 ar
You will have to full length size fired cases every time to ensure proper functioning in an AR. A full length 204R bushing size die with the proper sized bushing and the expander ball removed from the decapping pin might work. I don't know I've never tried it even though I have one. Necking down with a bushing die is certainly possible, I've done it several times when a better solution wasn't available. It is a PITA though when a lot of cases are required as with an AR varmint rifle. We all like to save $$$ when possible, but if you are going to the hassle and expense of having a custom 17/204 AR barrel made, get the proper dies. You will be a much happier shooter. Vic
