As you may already know, Berger recommends a 1 in 8" or faster twist.

Default 55 grain Bergers

Hello,
I do shoot these in front of a 20X47 Lapua and the barrel is a 9 twist. I don't know which cartridge your planning to push these with but since the 20X47 Lapua is an overbore, it will drive the 55's faster and that will most likely not require as fast a twist? From previous experience, I find the recommendations given by Berger on twist to be on the cautious side. I prefer to not use a faster twist than necessary because the faster twist does in my opinion cut your velocity.
These are only my opinions.
Stan

Sorry, didn't notice you had mentioned a cartridge, I would be willing to bet that a 9 twist would be fine with those 2 cartridges.

I don't know about the 20 prac/tac but the 20 EXTREME is a perfect, even fits in the magazine and just the right size to get the 3150- 3250 fps that appears to stabilize the 55 Berger in a 9 twist.

Shoots the 39 BK, 40 V-max and 40 Nosler BT into the same POI.

People here are shooting 55s from 1 in 9 tubes successfully and with good accuracy usually using 20BR, 20-250, 20x47 etc. I have bought some myself to test once I run out of 50s.

I shoot the 55 Bergers in a 1/9 twist at around 3700 with good results out of my 20/250.
Not sure if you will get the desired results using a 20prac/tac but you can always give them a try. You will never know if you don't have a go.

FWIW- I run them from an 8.5tw at 3640 fps without a hitch.

gunner, My 20 BR with a 1:9 twist Bartlein stabilizes either the Berger or Blackhole 55 gr bullets at 3650 fps easily to 500 yards and beyond. In good shooting conditions both bullets will stay in .3"-.4" MOA for (3) shot groups at 500 yards. I have met a fellow at the range who has a 1:9 twist Hart .204 Ruger that shoots extremely well at longer ranges but he is shooting 50 gr Bergers. I feel like Chickenthief...maybe, maybe not at the slower speeds. To bad Berger discontinued the 50 gr. bullet. 410gauge

Thanks guys for your replies , its a practical but i dont intend to use them really . I just bought them in a panic a few months back - lack of 39 SBKz . But iv got a 1000 sierra now so shouldn't even bother really . ill prob just sell em . Iv got 200 Noslers to try -40 grainers , but prob like allot of you guys my rifles off for proofing / testing etc THEN has to be pillar bedded - the wait is excruciating lol . Worse as my 223 Akley is in for re-crown / screw cut , taking off 2" as with a muzzle mounted suppressor and 29" barrel - its a little long !
