Default 20tac

Hi to members,
I am thinking about getting a 20 tac built. I have a Sako A1 - is this rifle suitable, ie. will it feed out of the standard magazine it has?
Also thinking of a Shilen 1:10" barrel for it. Or is there another option barrel from other members that may have one of these built.
Thanks for any ideas or comments.
Jay

Sako AIs don't allow much over SAAMI 223 Rem OAL to fit in the magazine & will not eject an unfired round if OAL is much over .227. If you want to seat your bullets close to or on the lands you might have to have a reamer made with the shorter freebore. Don't know what the standard freebore is on the TAC, but the 20 Practical standard freebore is quite short to allow bullets to be seated close to the lands & still fit in an AR magazine & may be a more "practical" choice for the Sako AI action. I have a Savage 112J with a Shilen 20 Practical barrel & rounds .005" off the lands will still fit in my 223 Rem Sako AI magazine. I'm not sure a 20 Tac would, so I would make sure before I decided. They are ballistic twins, so it's a matter of which one functions easier in your action.

The 20 Tactical will work fine.

I have a .20 Tac. made on a Remington 700 varmint synthetic that started life as a .223 and it feeds and functions flawlessly. Not sure about the Sako's length but my Remington ejects loaded rounds fine.
I went with a 1 in 12 twist back then as was the original design by Todd Kindler, mine sports a Pac-Nor Super Match 3 groove as do all my .17's and .20's love em! Mine shoots the original 33 grain V-Max into tiny little groups and the 40 grain V-Max's into slightly larger but still very pleasing small groups. Were I to do another one I would use a 1 in 11 Pac-Nor 3 groove for added insurance on the 40's that would still shooting the 32's well. Personal thought only but I probably wouldn't choose the 1 in 10 unless heavier than 40 grainers were my goal.
The .20 Tac was my first big .20 and I still love it , great round that really started the .20 caliber's popularity on a big scale.

Default Sako in Tac 20

I have one in a Tac20 and it works fine. As mentioned only limitation is COL which means no plastic tipped bullets. I'm probably 50-75 thou off the lands but it shoots into .5" so it's not a concern. It's my primary carry gun for coyotes and with a 35gr Berger it does a great job.

The 20 Tac should work in any action that the 223 works in, including the Sako.

I have a custom built on a sort Rem 700 action and it feeds fine with room for ejecting loaded rounds from the action.

My other 20 Tac is a Cooper single shot with no loading issues at all.

I only shoot 38 grain hand swaged HP's in both of mine which are both 12" twist barrels. PacNor SS SM on the Rem 700....Wilson I'm assuming on the Cooper.

No doubt they are different actions.

My mind was on the fact that I have a Sako L461 originally chambered in 222 Rem Mag, and that cartridge feed and ejects just fine in the short Sako action. No idea on how close to the lands the bullets are as the rifle has shot itty bitty groups from day one with both factory and hand loaded ammo.

Default Savage Weather Worrior

Mine is a Savage with a Douglas SSS barrel on it not sure what the throat is but I can touch the lans with a 32 Gr bullet with ease. My twist is a 1 in 9. The gun shoots everything lights out except 39 Gr Blitzkings go figure. Smallest group out of the gun is a .169 five shots. But the Blitzkings won't hardly shoot an inch at best?
