has anyone tried a 1:7 twist 3 groove lilja barrel 20 cal for the 55grn berger in a 20 Grendel? Berger says 1:8 , was also wondering if anyone has used the 7twist and shot the berger 40gr and it held up and didnt vapor.

sdguelde@hotmail.com,
My $.02 worth. I've shot the 20 BR through three bbls. 900-1000 rds is about average. One bbl went 1500 rds and I still don't know why. At about 1200 rds it shot a 1/2" group at 300 yds. It's a good round that's only slightly overbore. I built a 20-223WSSM...MAJOR mistake! Took almost 12 grs more powder to go a 190 fps faster than the 20 BR. I currently have a 20-22/250. It has (417) rds through it, and is showing a lot of throat erosion and fire cracking. If it makes (600) rds...I'll be impressed. All the 20 BR's have been 1:9 twist Krieger and Bartlein with no problems on bullet stability and any altitude above 1000'. The 20-22/250 has a 10-twist Krieger. I've only shot it at 4500' elevation up to about 7,000'. All of the above has been with Berger 55 gr 20 cal bullets. My idea with the 10-twist 20-22/250 was to keep the bullet rpm down to keep from tearing up bullets. That has been reported by several people on these forums after 300 rds or so with the Berger 55 gr bullet. My 20-22/250 has done okay without tearing up bullets, but barrel life is SHORT! If your're a coyote hunter the 20 Grendal should be okay. I'm a Sage Rat/PD shooter. I've shot the 40gr V-Max in the 20 BR 1:9 twist with no issues. The 11-twist 20 PPC is much better with that bullet in my opinion though. Good luck on your decision. 410gauge |

Listen to 410, a 9 is enough for a fast 20 cal and the 55's
After that drop down to a 39 or 40 grain bullet. Theres guys I know who shoot a 20BRAI and 55's in competition and the all shoot 9's and have tested 8's and say the 9 is more accurate especially after some rounds on the barrel. |
