17-204 bullet seater
What are you guys with 17-204's using to seat bullets. I have a Hornady 17 cal. universal seater but the sliding sleave ends up in my rockchucker press die hole. I assume it is because the .204 Ruger case is so long and the seater is designed for shorter cases? The die is threaded in only a few threads. Or maybe I am setting it up wrong. Any input would be appreciated.

I don't load for the 12-204, but I load for 20 Practical. I just use the Redding Competition seating die for a 223 and the bullet runout is just as good with the 20 Practical.

I would have to look at my notes to make sure, but IIRC, I use the Gold Metal Seating die with the drop window for 17/204 loading. It's pretty handy, use it for a bunch of my 17's. Seems to load straight rounds.

If you have a RCBS competition seater die it will work, just change the bullet guide and seating stem to 17 cal.

Also, if using the RCBS competition seater die, use the extended shell holder, which was included with the die.

Vickerman may be an option. I use it for a 17 Ackley Hornet and am about to try it with a 17-222. Just a thought, I love the Vickerman, but not everyone feels that way.
Good luck Doug

Does the Vickerman die require use of an extended shell holder?
