The Savage patents ran out a few years back, now everybody's using them, Remmy, Mossberg etc.

I don't mean to hijack here but could a guy build a PPC off of the Grendel mini action Howa?
And would it feed? A 20 PPC would be beat with that little action. |

XS, you've got the same idea I had. Seen brownells had heavy barreled actions for sale but I've not been able to find any stock options as of yet. I'm sure it will be just a matter of time before boyds or bell and Carlson make one for it. I think they listed the barrel as a 6 contour if I remember correctly.

Isn't the Howa mini action just the Remington 788 but is now just being built by Howa after Remington discontinued production?

Howa mini action
Do not believe so, it looks just like the 1500 action, they have, but shortened in the receiver and bolt. Other than that the design and appearance is just like their tried and true Mod 1500. Bill K

High Tech makes a stock for the standard 1500. Wouldn't be surprised if the make one for the min.

Anyone know the weight differences between the mini models. I see that they offer a 20" heavy barrel, a 20" light contour and a 22" standard. I couldn't find anything on the legacy sight that shows the actual weights of these different models. Mainly the 6.5 grendel

Found some info. indicating that the 20" heavy barrel rifle in 6.5 Grendel weighs 6.4 lbs. In 223, the 20" lightweight and 22" standard weigh 5.7 lbs. and 6 lbs respectively.

They have NOTHING in common with the 788, excluding the chamberings. They are simply a shortened, short-action Howa 1500, with a box magazine. Nothing more, nothing less. It's an excellent action, with good barrels. I don't care for the stocks, but the basic rifle is a very good one. The regular short-action 1500 action will feed Fireball-length cartridges if you make sure they're butting up against the back of the magazine. I suspect this new, even-shorter action would be a good action for building a .20 VT or .17 Fireball or Mach IV, or the .221, for that matter. It's pretty slick. I think I've almost talked myself into one. |

Will a 6x45 fit in the mag while using 85-90 gr bullets?
