Wonderful, my father was part of the 1957 USFWS team that re-established Big Horn Sheep in Eastern Oregon. It was Dad's first USFWS assignment on the Hart Mountain Nation Wildlife Refuge, near (well sort of near) Lakeview OR. At age 7, I was in fascinated with the sheep then and continue to be today. I am thrilled to see how far the sheep have expanded across the west.

This is a wonderful story, thank you for sharing it.

Now the score on the horns. Will he enter it into any books ? Bill K
It scored 174, it missed B&C but gets into the SCI and Wa. State record book.

That will make him real proud!

I've never hunted sheep or goats.
Riding up canyon for elk the horses
stopped and looked up at the side hill maybe 50yds from us.
A full curl bighorn was walking along like
nothing else was around. He got right under
a big boulder and like a cat with springs for legs
just hopped clear to the top at least 15' it looked like.
Bill said "watch" In just a bit he peeked over the rock
at us, just his eye's and enough head he could see.
Both of us and both horses watched until he drew back
several minutes later it seemed. Then we rode on.

The rancher had told me for years there were a few up
there. We looked for them a few times in summer and found tracks
is all but, that's the only one I've ever seen. Quite a thrill,
killing one would really be great. I'm very happy for the boy.
He's for sure hooked on hunting now! He'll go for sheep every chance
he gets now. This won't be his only one, count on that.

Jim, congratulations to your grandson that is a really nice looking ram.......is he interested in hunting some Thar?

Actually I'm pretty sure I could swap you a couple of Thar for a couple of Rams, breeding pair that is. We could do with some nice looking Rams here in NZ
