32 gr Reeds soft point .17 Remington
I’ve been trying to get these really nice looking Reeds 32gr Bullets to group well but I’ve had zero luck in doing so.
My rifle is a CZ527 Varmint 1:9 twist. Maybe I need a 1:8? Anybody have any luck with these bullets? I’ve tried pretty healthy doses of H414 and a CCI450 primer also Rem 71/2 primers. Let me know what you think. |

I shoot them in pure lead, not a Reeds product. It is a very good bullet if properly loaded. In pure Pb, they come in at 33.4gr. Shoot well from a 1 in 9" tw at 850fps to just over 1300fps.
In my 17VHA here is my goto load:1.08gr HS700X, 17VHA HAS in my rifle 12.75gr H2O Case capacity 33.4GR NOE (PURE LEAD WEIGHED MORE) 1010fps It does this in a wet pile of paper, gives about 3" of penetration. If your groups are all over the place you might consider shooting them much much slower than 2300fps. They go all over the place at around 1800fps but slower than this in pure lead they shoot about 1/2 inch or less at 50yds. I've been using mine sparingly as nobody was offering these for sale, I'm glad Reeds is putting them out there, the N.O.E. design is just fine in my rifles between 850 to 1300fps. In my opinion you are using way too much powder, and the wrong case. Use a case that has much less capacity, your case has about 30+gr water capacity, that is too much for the best results with this bullet. Last edited by 17tbs; 05-19-2018 at 07:55 AM. |

I appreciate the feedback. However those bullets are not pure lead. They are a copper jacketed soft point rebated boat tail bullet.
Reed’s said they are meant to be pushed like any other Copper Plated bullet. I’ll keep tinkering. I think they’d be great coyote bullets. Thanks for the input. |

Wrong bullet.
That's an awesome bullet design, sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were referring to these:
I now see the bullets you are referring to way down at the bottom of the .172" bullet listing, they look great, except for the rough outer bearing surface. They almost look electroplated. Have you tried pushing them at different velocities? Last edited by 17tbs; 05-19-2018 at 08:16 PM. |

Why? It is properly credited as a N.O.E. bullet mold, right there in the diagram.

I have looked at those for quite a while. I just can't bring myself to hit the go button on one. I don't want to even dream of getting a lead fouled bore in a 17. |
