Try VV-110 Its worked great in my 22 Hornet if you need something faster than N 120

Default N120 and 1680

I think these are the two most widely used powders for the 17AH with the edge going to 1680 just from an availability of supply. Now 1680 is....gone! Doesn't mean it won't show up in qty on suppliers shelves someday and the prices guys are gouging for 1lb cans.....! Last 8lb jug I saw that went up for auction pushed 400.00 without adding shipping and hazmat. So 36 and change for N120, available right now is a deal. Look for what single cans of 1680 are going for.

Of course you can holster that rifle and wait...

PS...this is the powder everyone is using in the 300BO so if you have one of these, semi or bolt, and your reloading this is what your looking for. Didn't really think about it until I went and pulled my data for my 300 Whisper, 1680..

Default n120

I sure like n120 in the .17 Ack hornet. It has been the powder of choice for me for that application. I had used 1680 first but switched to n120 and liked it even better for that round. I was not shooting over the chrono so can't comment on the velocity.

I did get some n110 for use in the 300 Whisper along with the smokeless muzzle loader. I have not used much of it at all yet. I have traditionally used H110 for the whisper and it has treated me well in the past.

You know this for a fact because quickload said so....is that it? I usually shoot 20gr bullets and 1680 powder. Velocity is about 3680. With VV120 it jumps to over 3800, same accuracy. Get your knowledge from actually doing, not from a ballistic program.

Default Just curious Dave,

What bbl lengths are you using for the diff 17s. I know a broad question but "I gots ta kno".

I'm sitting on a k of Hornady 17s, spire point, 25gr I think, so when the occasional 17 comes by, I start to thinking.......You know, almost a K in the rifle and dies for 150$ worth of bullets....How the mind works.

They're both 20" barrels. The MachIV's are 22-1/2 to 24".

I use A1680 so have at it

Aaron
People complain about the cost of an 8lb jug at that price they should try NZ prices, we have to pay about US$145 per lb for VV powder here, so US$280 would buy us about 2lb locally.

Only wish our prices were as good as yours...Kiwi
