Default 20 Vartarg Cases from 222 Brass?

In my search to devour everything written about the 20 vartarg, Ive read in passing that some folks make cases from 222 brass as an alternative to the 221 rem brass. What exactly is involved in the process? Getting curious about possibly trying this out for myself... Do you guys think there would be a real evident difference between sizing lapua 222 down to 20 vartarg vs. just FLS 221 rem down?

Push shoulder back, trim to length plus probable neck turning depending on chamber specs and brass thickness.

Post I have lots of info on the subject...

Here is a link to basic case forming found here on Saubiers Article page.
http://www.saubier.com/smallcaliber/caseforming.html

If you need more info than the above is providing also have a bunch of text files and Word Doc files on the subject from various peoples input that I have been saving. Very good stuff! If you want I can email them to you. Too much to publish here on this board.

PS: All my info is forming from 222/223Rem brass to 17KMIV, however the mid-way product results in 221FB brass. From there on when instructions speak of 17MKIV dies you can just substitute 20VT dies. Fire forming will be necessary.

thanks for the info guys.

one thing Im unclear on-

do I just take the 222 brass and run it into the 20vt die? I cant imagine that would work. Seems like there would need to be some sort of intermediate size step before the 20vt FLS die.

Redding makes a forming set consisting of a form die, a form & trim die, and an extended shell holder for making .221 Fireball from .222 or .223 Remington.

The RCBS special order catalog lists sets for .221 from .222 and .221 from .223. For some reason the .221 from .223 costs over three times as much as the .221 from .222.

I use a cut off 22-250 neck size die(any 22 cal nec sizer will do) to take the 222 down to just short of the 221 shoulder length, i.e. long neck 221. Cut off the neck to a little over 221 specs. Run thru 221 full length die and then down to 20 VT.
Yes you do need another step between the 222 and 20 VT. Or at least I do ..
