Thanks, Doug. I can still out shoot them for now. However, they are MUCH better spotters than I am. Amazing how good young eyes can be! Take care, my friend.

Having not owned one you need to treat this for what it is worth. I've looked and handled the Nosler rifles and my opinion was very expensive for what you get. For minute of angle big game hunting, any decent factory rifle get the job done at humane shooting distances. A Tikka, Howa, Remington or Ruger is what I would be looking at, and what fits the best is what I would buy.

If you do want a high quality rifle, for Nosler prices I would pick a Cooper or Sako over the Nosler any day.

Starting to sound like the Nosler route is not the way we want to go. I appreciate everyone sharing their thoughts and experiences.

I'd be looking at buying a sako long before I spent money on a custom action based on the outdated Rem 700 90 deg bolt throw action!

I vote for the Sako also.

The Sako has a known value.

Not so with Nosler or custom. Kenny

Default I am prejudiced,

But may I suggest a Cooper model 54 Phoenix in 7-08, or 308. Composite stock, 3 shot magazine, guaranteed 1/2 min accuracy and semi custom built by great folks in Stevensville Montana not Yokahooshi Japan.. MSRP. $ 2,125
I would prefer wood stock but recognize their factory finish needs work.
No matter what you decide I all applaud your plan.

For the price I would go Sako over Nosler for sure. If you want it to be an heirloom piece, take a look at Ultra Light Arms. The ones hand made by Melvin Forbes are an outstanding gun, the copies not so much. Had I owned one of those when I was 18 I would have never owned much of anything else, just would of had copies in whatever caliber I was looking for.

Ramos if I was in your shoes I would be looking at a Sako or Cooper. Two very exceptional rifles with plenty of options

SPF action: $850
Shilen barrel: $175
BC stock: $250
Shilen Trigger: $100
PTG bottom Metal: $125
Leupy FXII 6X: $275
Smith to barrel: $250

$1975 and just the way you want it.

don't forget $150-225 to pillar bed. Personally id go with a mcmillan stock and add a Jewel but a SS barrel is going to add a bit more to those prices. and Predator actions are a fair bit more $$
