It is not just if a crown is square, there are lots of other things that go with it. Is the bore in the center of the barrel? Do all the lands release at the same time? Probably a half dozen other things. Larry

for crown you would indicate off bore so what the od does has no effect, I actually worked on this exact problem with the a.m.u. pretty sure they and other depts. in army have a handle on this. the only thing the flat base does in real world testing is to have more drag to pull base into stability faster. I would like to hear what the other half a dozen things might be. and yes groove dia runout to bore would have an effect but at that point its a barrel problem not a bullet issue..

Question for you George: Have you found a recessed target crown or the
11* target crown to be more accurate with one bullet type or the other? (FB-BT)

for fb a flat crown as for bt well I guess you can call it recessed not sure I can go into specifics other than gas pressure needs to be equalized on bt angle and reduced as fast as possible to reduce aerojump preferably while still in barrel...hope that helps I'm kind of going out on a limb here..also do not see any advantage to 11*..also let me add this was without a muzzlebrake..

Guess I would not know all the things that effect the bullet exit from a barrel, but if it were only if the crown was straight with the bore then most every crown would be perfect, and work the same, and we all know they are not, and do not. Larry

Or perhaps all barrels are not equal, I'm pretty sure crowns are not much of an issue these days in target shooting
