montdoug--I'm glad you could come along for the hunt.

You are spot on about seeing the results of the hits in the scope!!! That's one thing I like about this rifle, even if it is a heavy beast to lug around. When you get the crosshairs on your intended victim, they don't move much as you squeeze off the shot.

I sure wish I had 6 sections of prairie dog town in one chunk!!! That should keep one shooter busy for a number of days--maybe even weeks!!! I hope it dries up so you can get out there and thin out the PD herd.

Don--Thanks for your kind words. I really enjoy the shooting part, but the photography part is enjoyable too in that it gives me pictures I can continue to view and those photos will bring back good memories for years to come. The day is coming when I will be too old and crotchety to get out there in the PD towns.

Glad you enjoy the pictures too.

Silverfox, Do prairie dogs hibernate and if so when? Typically ground squirrels disappear sometime mid summer and are not much seen again until next spring. Burt

A 20 Duster is based on a 222 case with a 40 deg shoulder this is a really nice cartridge and I was lucky enough to shoot Jim Barkers a few years ago.

Take a look at this thread for more detail

Default Kiwi is right....

The Duster is very similar to Kevin Weavers 20Bobcat,a slightly shorter neck though.I shoot 40 V-Maxs with my eleven twist at 3750-3800fps and shoot pds without too much barrel heat.Kinda like a 20VarTarg on steroids.Farthest pd was 574 yards so far.

This thread sure took a turn?!?!

bburrell--According to my research, prairie dogs are not true hibernators. They do sleep during the winter, but if there is a warm spell in the weather it is not unusual to see some of them up out of their dens wandering around in the snow.
