There was also a bit of a transport section and I guess at some time these were actually used

Imagine the stories they could tell if they could talk

Now this was interesting but I had to use google to find out what one of these actually looked like

We left the cars

and the views from of Scottys castle behind

And took in the view into Ubehebe crater, 1/2 a mile across and up to 777ft deep

then headed south toward Furnace Creek, but on the way stopped at the Harmony Borax works

It seems time and weather have taken its toll on the buildings

The view back toward the carpark (the Mustang was our wheels) quite a view

And the view out to the valley, even though it was hot 118F it was quite plesant

the wheels on those wagons are huge, well over 6 ft in dia

After the Borax works it was Furnace Creek, Old Dinah, imagine running a steam engine in the heat of Death Valley

We found out these signs aren't just for laughs

I marvelled at the new roads we had to drive on, and wondered if they had just sealed the dirt roads.........no from the information we found at Furnace Creek it seems they had had some floods and the lodge had been surrounded by water and the floods had washed away a lot of the roads.

Because of the floods not all the roads had been repaired so we missed out on viewing the Artist Pallette and Dantes View

We were 282 ft below sealevel and didn't even get wet

Somewhere up there is a sign with sea level on it.........can you see it?

There it goes

There is still a bit of water left of the lake from earlier in the year

From Badwater we headed........well for a better description up to Zabriskie Point for a final look back at Death Valley

From Death Valley we headed down to Las Vegas for a bed for the night then east to

Quite a contrast to Death Valley with it's greenery and sheer rock walls

One thing that was obvious was the different colours of the rock

Our first day in Zion was a really nice day for a walk, so we did like others and took a walk up the Zion narrows

There are quite impressive views due to the towering rock cliffs

To think water has carved this narrow channel out of rock

The rock cliffs made people look quite small

Ian, impressive places.
Kinda looks like you kids have been
eating well since your visit here!

Always thought I'd like to drive across Death Valley but, was
told to never take the truck across it so I've never been there.
Always thought it was 120miles across in all directions, these
pics and the satellite view prove otherwise. Thank you for that.

Have you been to the bottom of the big ditch?
