Default OT-For you codgers who can't see well

I was one of you a couple months ago.

My sight has been deteriating for the last few years.

I needed new glasses and decided I should go to an optimologist

to make sure everything was ok.

He said I had cataracts and sent me to a surgeon.

Long story short. I can see iron sight on my ML which I haven't

done well in a long time.

I am still going to need glasses to read or see fine stuff like the eye

of a fish hook. There ain't nothing to it except putting drops in the eye for a

month after surgery. Kenny

I'm not old (44) but my vision is horrible. Nearsighted as heck, need glasses for that, now I'm having trouble reading...REALLY looking forward to bifocals.

Shooters who use iron sights need to stay AWAY from progressive lenses, where you point your nose at what you want to see & the distance focus is only in the exact centre of the lens near the top. You look at iron sights through the top left corner of the right lens for a right handed shooter, top right of the left lens for a left handed shooter. With progressive lenses that is a no-go area - no focus area at any range.

Thus, I went to bi-focal lenses to be able so see my iron sights and not have weird focus settings on my scopes.

Daryl, you are spot on. I stayed with traditional bifocals when I needed to get them for the exact reasons you stated. I did one step better though, and had a pair of single vision sunglasses for target shooting, varmint shooting and summer driving. Stayed away from polarized lenses as they screwed up being able to read the LCD dispays in the dash of my car.

Up until I was 30 all I used was open sights because of my excellent vision and depth perception. now I'm 500/475.
