700 SPS with a rough chamber
I recently purchased a Remington 700 sps varmint .17 fireball. I am noticing alot of scrapes and scratches on the brass after being fired. I am assuming there must be a really rough chamber. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Also might want to check out the magazine lips. Mine scratches the hell out of my cases. Adam

Break out the Dremel tool, get a couple of those 400-600 grit Rubber cratex polishing tips ONLY and very lightly SMOOTH/POLISH ONLY the edges of the magazine box and the feed ramp. DO NOT CHANGE ANY ANGLES etc. If you check with some sort on power eye piece or use your pinky you'll find the sharp edges causing the problems, look for the brass colored markings etc. CLEAN EVERYTHING VERY WELL WHEN FINISHED. If you are feeding from an internal magazine on a 700 rem, herein lies the problem. Approximatley 1/2" in back of the feed ramp on each side of the action rails a small "tit" will be seen protruding from the side of the rail. Something that should of been cleaned up at the factory but----. This needs to be filed flat. It is not very big but it will really tear your brass up. I have had to do this on the last two rem's I purchased. You need to remove the action from the stock to get the magazine follower out of the way to do this properly. Blow everything out with compressed air when done. Really simple 30 min. project.
