Default A CZ 527 like you have never seen before. (switch barrel)

I figured that would get a lot of attention , I started a thread a while ago talking about building a CZ 527 with a barrel nut (savage style) but I figured this projected needed a new thread. Let me introduce you to a fully switch barrel CZ 527. It is currently a 221fb but it can have just about any barrel made for it and be able to be screwed together at any time, it can even have an extra bolt so you can do just about anything. I know I know stop writing and get some pics up haha well here you go. Ask any questions that you may have.

Thats an idea, I wonder how they would like that haha. and yes I did do all the work. I'm more of a metal man than a wood man but I think the stock turned out pretty good.

Default I still don't get why people put a barrel nut on

Savage did it for easy headspacing. Time = money in manufacturing.

With a Remington, pin the recoil lug and put a shoulder on the barrel.

The CZ has a built-in recoil lug. Put the shoulder on the barrel.

I realize that getting the shoulder in the proper place takes some math and careful cuts, but why in the hell someone wants to add the ugly nut is beyond me.

To each his own.

By the way, I'm jealous. I wish I had my own lathe and the space to put it.

Even though I don't like the barrel nut, your work is nice.

Sinarms, it looks great and I will be interested in how it shoots. I take it the barrel doesn't seat against the internal shoulder, where the original barrel tightens up against.

Mike I agree with you, even though in this case the barrel nut isn't as ugly as a Savage.
But if the shoulder is machined on the barrel then you don't need a headspace guage to switch barrels, just screw the barrel on and go shoot.

I have a couple of Savages with no barrel nut, the barrel is machined the same as a Remington, this definatly improves the looks of a Savage.........Kiwi

Some of you folks don't get it........the barrel nut allows folks to purchase barrels without having to send their action out to a gunsmith for proper headspacing. Once your rifle is set up for a barrel nut, simply order the barrels and have them shipped directly to you. Install and headspace on a headspace gauge or like thousands of Savage shooters, headspace on a piece of brass that was sized on YOUR FL dies. So now your rifles headspace matches YOUR brass perfectly.........

This isn't about....."You could have done it like Remington with a shoulder"....we all know that.......... :-)

Switch barrels to any compatible caliber in less than 10 minutes with a wrench and head space gauge or a piece of fired brass? What an opportunity for the wildcatters! Change a bolt face for rimmed cases and have those calibers too?

Barrel nuts are like beauty marks. How much uglier is that nut compared to the protruding mag? I'll take function over fashion anytime.

Great work Sinman!

I am pretty much with Mike on this.
You now have a gun with an altered action.
Altered stock and an altered barrel.
Resale is about half of what it was before.
Neat work. Kenny

I pretty sure Mike is well aware of that with the Savage rifles and barrel nuts, but since this is a neat one-of-a-kind, there ain't no other barrels to "order".

It's always fun to mess on the lathe and make new things, and for me I always learn something in the process.

Truth be told, I have 5 barrels threaded / chambered for my BAT SV (no front recoil lug), but the first one I installed shoots so well that it's more of a standard rifle with lot's of back-up barrels rather than being a switch barrel. Once the .20 VT barrel is dead, i will swap it out for the .20 Tac. Or maybe .17 Tac, or .223 IMP, or .222 rem...... Hmmm.

Anyhow, neat work..!
