RL-7 and 20VT

Here's some data from Todd Kindler's The Terrific Twenties:

RL7, 36gr Berger bullet

Starting 19gr

Max 20.3

... a virgin batch of cases with 18.4 gr. of RL-7 and 32 gr. Blitzkings. I'm using WSR primers, which are pretty mild.

That sounds about right to me Alex, no higher to start for sure.

Guys, Alex, I, and many others have come to learn, "Do not under any circumstances use any of Kindler's loads without reducing a *bunch*."

Reloder 7 is a fine powder for the 20 VT, it should work well for you.

After reading Dan C and Alex's posts, I went back and looked at the page in Kindler's book where I quoted the load recommendations, and in all fairness to Todd, I should point out that he does not list them as "starting" and "max" loads, but rather lists data on 19, 19.6, 19.9 and 20.3 grains. I was the one who "interpolated" this as starting and max......my bad. George

I don't have the book with me, but look and see Todd's loads for H-4198. When I got my first 20 VT, I started way low (I thought) and loaded additional rounds with increasing charges. I could no way, even with a drop tube, fit anywhere near the charges Todd was using into the case. After my starting loads were clearly too hot, I reduced again. My max load ended up being around 18.8 grains or so.

People just need to be very cautious with his loads, Alex has stories as well.
