I never anneal anything but if you are going from 22 H to a K it sure wouldn't hurt anything.

I've built and shot 1000's of hornet-based cartridges and never annealed one!

I have lost maybe half dozen after many firings to cracked necks, but lost more between the seats of my truck!

The cracked ones, i think can be mostly attributed to poor neck prep on my part.
Shot many, many 19 Calhoons and maybe lost two or three to damage.

Not saying never anneal, just that the hornet cases are so thin & pliable, I just have never had the need. Brass works easily and holds up well...used all mfgrs kinds of brass too...use mostly WW now, tho...

Just my experience with Hornet brass....

Bill

I've done them both ways. I anneal now if I'm making a new batch, just give them a circle of fire with the torch tip from Todd K which is quick and easy..

Using RP brass, I fired them 14 times as .22 Hornets (3,340fps w/40gr.HP &Vmax), then necked them to hold a 20gr. .172" bullet, fireformed them all (500) and reloaded twice more before I started to get neck splits. THEN I annealed the batch.

HOLY CRAP! I guess I won't worry about it. I am looking at the Hodgdon reloading for the 22K and with the CFE BLK they are getting 3010 fps with a 45 grain bullet at only 38,500 CUP. They are getting more fps out of a 45 grain bullet than a 40 grain bullet not going over spec psi., and with the CFEBLK the 45 grain load is actually a bit lower than a std Hornet with traditional Hornet powders. IF it is accurate, it looks really promising.

You have to look close at the TYPE of bullet, not just the weight they post on the Loads....A Nosler or Hornady ballistic tip will way out perform other 40s they may post/use in the specified loads.

The K-Hornet can push right up close to the 221 FireBall in many cases!!!!

Default hmmm...

I must have a slow barrel on my K. Anything over 3100 with a 40gr anything and my brass is pretty much toast. Maybe not all at once but it's enough to keep me hovering around 3k.
