this should be required viewing in every hunter safety class
and i don't mean the advertisment you have to sit thru to get to the video. it's pretty self explanitory as to what i am talking about, but for clarity it's the richochets. without the tracers one would never have known where those bullets went.
just my 2 cents http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSJ3R1lwwS4

A tracer round has s hard compound affixed to the base of the bullet that is ignited by the powder. What you are seeing is this compound which breaks free from the bullet in travel ricocheting off the ground not the actual bullet.
Not that the bullets couldn't be doing the same. FMJ 223's are natorious ricocheters. The fella in the second vid drilled that Yote. First guy needs some range time |

First Guy needs some range time?? That's an understatement!! He should have been shooting a single shot rifle. That way he would have learned to make every shot count. Or, go full auto with his AR and Really put some rounds downrange.

Speaking of ricochets, this is one of those really bad close calls.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ABGIJwiGBc No tracers involved, just a big 50 BMG. |

This should be required
First tracers are not really legal in my state, Kalifornia, in open range country.
Second, the compound is doing the fly off, bullet is not doubt going on into the snow/ground. Third, this guy needs some practice.. Bill K |

not sure it was this video but one tracer hits and you can see the dry grass catch fire. it doesn't take a tracer to start a fire just a hot bullet.

Very educational, for the coyote. That' s the last time someone will be able to lure it into a call.
