Default Savage actions

Would the Savage experts answer this question for me . Is the Long Range Precision action ,single shot made in one length ,the only difference being the bolt head ? Thanks.

No, there are a lot of different actions, left port right bolt, right port right bolt, left load port right eject port right bolt, could be some others also. Larry

To change form a .308 bolt head to a .223 bolt head will only take a bolt head change. Larry

Default Savage Action

I believe it is made in "short action" only.

It will be a .308 length action, for the .223 you would probably put an extended front baffel on to limit the bolt travel but is not needed. You could probably shoot some fairly long cartridges in a short Savage action, and even longer if you didn't mind taking the bolt out to eject an unfired round. Larry

The target action is the short variety. The port is fairly small compared to the hunting or varmint Savage actions. I have a right bolt/left port that I could photo, with a ruler along side, if that would help anyone with the question posed, just let me know. I can also put a 308 and 223 round in the photo for reference if that would give a needed perspective (?).

Default Savage target action

Hi Y'all. Don't mean to hijack this thread, but what are the physical dimensions and bolt spacing of the target action? I've posted this on Savage.com, but haven't had any feedback.
Thanks,
Art

Dimensions taken from my action and paperwork that came with it:
O.A.L. = 8 13/32" ; Diameter = 1.350" ; Three bolt holes - 2.200" centers, with first
one .800" from face of action ; Loading port length - 3.400", width - .640"
Receiver/Barrel thread = 1 1/8 - 20 UN - 3A ; Turned barrel diameter = 1.110" - 1.115"
with barrel thread length = 1.375" - 1.395" when using Savage barrel nut method.
Ground recoil lug = .250" thick, .374" protrusion below action.
Hope this helps.
