Question 204 Ruger Loads

First post here.
I haven't noticed a lot of mention of .204 Ruger loads/shooting here. Yes, wildcats are cool; I have a T/C Contender octagon barrel in 17 Mach IV, and a .25 Gibbs in a Rem 721.

My question is, "what powder are you having success with?" My first experiment below. Welcoming any comments. Thanks.

V-Max 32 gr bullet & Benchmark powder
Lube = NECO Moly Coated
Trimmed Case Length = 1.840
COL: 2.250
Primer: Rem 7 1/2
Hornady cases with lots of TLC.
5 rounds each of:
27.4 grains
27.6 grains
27.8 grains
28.0 grains
28.2 grains

As you can see the ES and SD are very poor. Next up is BL-C(2).

I have been using h4895 for both my 32vm and 39 bk loads. Have tried h322 with the 32 but not finished with it. I have settled on 28.2gr. of h4895 for the 32vm. Average velocity is 3935. I have a sammi chamber so I am jumping .111. My length to ogive on a loaded round as measured on a Stony Point is 1.956 (zero on tool). I think that is 2.300 but do not have a loaded round today. Shot them all on Sat.
I have seated out as close to the lands as I can get (limited to a minimum of .136 in the case) and have found that this particular barrel likes a pretty good jump.

First of all welcome.
My .204 data doesn't help ya cause it's a custom chamber with zero free bore and min spec chamber. I will say it's favorite load is using 10X and 39grain BlitzKings. Mine is a rechambered CZ Varmint Kevlar and I did it as an experiment to compare a custom chambered .204 to my .20 Tactical figuring I'd then pull the barrel and do something different with it. Long story short it shoots so well I'm leaving it alone. Both with 32's and 40's it's working loads are literally within a few fps of my .20 Tactical's working loads.

In a standard CZ .204 I believe my buddy Varminator found what Alex's friend did, WW748 is the powder of choice. Benchmark works well in my .20 Tactical and while I've never used it in the .204 I would think it oughta do well also.
Keep us posted how it goes.

The ES of the Benchmark & Rem 7 1/2 combination seems a little high. I'd try switching to a CCI BR-4 or Fed 205M and see if that has any effect.

Default A question CWO4?

I just reread your sd's and es's, your right, they stink. Two questions? How were you metering your powder charges and how did the loads shoot?
The reason I ask is I've had loads that the sd's were bad but they shot very accurately anyway and the sd's and es's as you know don't mean much till you really stretch out there. As to metering sometimes just throwing charges can vary weight quite a bit. Just thoughts on times I've experienced what you are.

CW04 sounds like a warrant officer to me, welcome. guess i'll just have to get my .204 out and do some work with it. seems h322 and benchmark was the powder of choice with 32 gr blitzkings.

Montdoug; I carefully measured each charge on my RCBS scale. The loads shot much better than they looked. I would shoot five then let the barrel cool while fireforming for the .25 Gibbs. The average off the top of my head--less than an inch for five shots at 100 yards. Doesn't make me happy when factory 32gr shoot about half that.

I usually look for a low ES and SD, proof that with a ten rounds, then work the accuracy angle.

I have all the powders recommended here so I guess I should work that and explore the primers too. Thanks to all. I will post the BL-C(2) work ups soon as I shoot them.

I too, use 10X and 39 grain Sierra's from a 12 VLP. Velocity is 3870 and around 1/4 moa when I do my part.
