For one reason or another guns don't always shoot the bullet you want them to.

My TAC 20 is a 1 in 9 and wanted to shoot the 39 BK. You know that gun shoots or should I say patterns that bullet.

Going back to the 20-222 next month. I bought a SS Shilen barrel 24" Mag Contour (Match not Select) and am working on modifying a 40X Youth stock to fit a Rem XR100 action (shaved sides off of it and filled the gap from the rail) and make a nice lite carry stock. As a side note Numrich has the 40X stock for as low as 15$. Anyway I have a desire to build one so I am.

Current Lapua 222 brass has "match" marked on the case head. My earlier brass does not. Also, the product designation of the current brass is 4PH5002. The earlier brass had a product designation of 4PH5011.

Well my bad luck, I have a box of new brass but its the older 4PH5011. Was going to use it my light sporter roo rifle. Still it might be better than win & rem

I get we like all small calibers, but I am having trouble seeing how the 20-222 would give me any different performance than a 204 Ruger, and I have to form brass, buy different dies, or bushings, and get a non-standard barrel reamer. What am I misssing here, is it just the variaty and the abiltiy to say I have something a little uniqe, which is an okay reason to buy something.

Well forming isn't a big issue, if you have any bushing die for the 20VT or the 17FB or 222 you can make the 20-222. Plus the 204R is much bigger than the 20-222 by 5+grs. Also there isn't fire forming involved, per se'. There isn't any change to the shoulder so load and go, where forming cartridges with the 30* shoulder needs a second load data done. Plus it's unique. And you can use lapua brass (reason number one imo) and you can definitely see your hits at 3900 fps.

There's plenty of room left in the case if you want more. Buddy RicN made several kills at 500+ last year (kicked my a$$ with my own rifle, but I'll get even some day) with that load.
Kind of a butt ugly color, but I've learned to love it. It also now sports a Zeiss 6.5x20.

I LOVE that rifle! I remember reading the Kiwi got to come over and squeeze the trigger on that one awhile back.
