New Ruger 77/17 in hornady 17 hornet
Just got my Ruger 77/22 Hornet back with a new Hornady .17 Hornet barrel on it!
It was built by Shawn at Straight Shooter Supply in Oregon. It is a 20" fluted .920" bull Lilja barrel, vais brake, bedded, free-floated, trigger tuned to 2lbs. It weighs in at an even 8lbs and balances nicely. I didn't want to wait for a factory gun and I thought this was a great opportunity to go for a custom tube- it looks awesome!! I will be shooting it this weekend. stay tuned! ...sorry for the lousy pic my mancave is rightfully dark. |

That looks to be a very nice rifle you have there. Can I ask why you have a muzzle brake on such a small calibre ? Is their some advantage to aid accuracy ?

I think going the Custom route is a great option, mine will be on a Browning low wall. Congrats on a good looking rig.... BTW, just received all my 17 hornet components.

I too have a Browning Low Wall in 22H that could get converted to a 17AH.
Who is doing the work for you. Seems any Gun Smith I ask only wants to work on Rem 700s' or custom bolt actions. Larry

I can see mine hit without a brake. Nice looking Ruger.

Kevin Weaver, he's been a busy bee with all my 1885s, I have 3 more to ship him, getting the barrels redone to match the 1885s contour is actually the most time-consuming part. I am having all my barrels installed with sigths as well.

The muzzle brake may end up not being necessary but I really wanted the same results I get from my 17 HMR- zero movement of the crosshairs with a 20x scope. Since it was already at my gunsmith I went ahead an put it on there instead of having to send it back later if I decided I wanted one.

Nice!!
Here is a clip of my 77/17 AH (ZERO FB/L) done on a new and rechambered CZ 17 rem heavy barrel. As you will see there isn’t much movement, and I was running the 20 gr bullets 100 fps faster than the HH…. my son Taylor was I believe 8 at the time and smaller built for his age (now 17 and big as me!) as I watched him shoot it just wasn’t moving so I recorded it… Should be fun and it should serve you well! FWIW my 77/17 AH was my third and final 17 AH. its way more fun than my contender and although a lot heavier its more fun than my CZ, it sets in the bags real nice and is a real shooter. I stick 2-3 loaded magazines in my pocket and disappear over the hill many times for a lil walk PD about….
