Default which way to go 204, 6x45 6.8 spc or 6.5 grindell

thinking of getting a extra upper for my ar, the question is to go with a 204, 6x45 6.8 spc or 6.5 grindell barrel.
i am in uncharted water when it comes to ar rifles.

i understand there is a built in predujice here for the 204.

I would go for the 6.5 Grendel. Big enough for deer and light enough for yotes'.

Default 6mm AR

You might want to look at the 6mm AR. They will shoot light or heavy bullets with a 8 twist barrel . I had one and sold it to fund a AR build I was working on . Mine was the turbo improved version . If you get one get the lighter weight varmint barrel , I got the heavy and it was to heavy for me . Later! Mark

Thumbs up

Bob

I would second the vote on the 6.5 Grendel.

I've built them on the 527 CZ's in the past and felt it made a nice carry combo with enough juice to take care of my avg critter issues.

Quite happy with that Laupa brass from AA.

I have a AR in 6 PPC that shoots groups in the 4's and sometimes smaller if I do my part. My 6.8 doesn't get shot much, and I'm still putting together my 6.5 Grendel. The 6mm AR would also be a good choice, I'll have to put that one on my list when I get the rest of my projects finished up.

Gee whiz Bob, maybe you should consider an AR over/under? ...

... just kidding you a bit.

Hi,
I tend to ask what I intend to hunt and then work out what tool to use. 204 is great for small game at out to silly distances. 6.8 is great for deer at closer distances.

What do you intend using the second build for and at what max range?

Go from there.

that's the problem, I have all those bases covered. it has nothing to do with needing anything for a purpose, I just want. lol
since I posted the thread I have learned about the 6mm ar, 6mm ar turbo, 6mm ar turbo ai and the 25 wssm, which is a 25-06 twin.
so now i am more torn and confused than before.
p.s. the 17 rem, 20 practical and 20 tac also popped up.

no prairie dogs to shoot, just an occasional coon, ground hog and deer in the fall.

so far the 6 ar ai looks promising as it would work for coyotes, g-hogs and deer. from a practical stand poing the 6x47, 20 tac or any cartridge based off the 6ppc case would be more cost effective. i have a couple hundred 6 ppc cases and the other 2 are bassed on the 223 case.

6x45 should fit the bill nicely. Just expand a 223 case, load and shoot. As already stated already get a faster twist and shoot it for a light deer round as well as a varmint round. I would suspect that the AR platform would really tear up brass in the 6PPC to the point where the cost would become an issue.
I usually only get 4 loads from a 223 case before the rim is too torn up to be reliable. Something to consider.

Well if that's the case go quarter bore and really punch it out there. 25WSSM!!! Dead is dead. A ground squirrel is not going to be any more or less deadera after being hit with a 6.5 or a 25WSSM, but a 25 WSSM sounds real good on those light weight deer you have over there.
