Default 22 TCM Review...

I had two CZs cut and rechambered to 22 TCM by Marty at Twisted barrel. One was a new 223 Varmint/Target & one a 221 FB. Both had a factory twist of 1/12.

After playing with these to see if the cartridge "spun my Beanie" (It did!),
I ordered a Lilja 22 cal SS barrel with a 1/7 twist and had Evan (Dasherr) do the work on a CZ with a Forest Green factory stock. Using a SSA from James Calhoon

The three bullets I was primarily interested in were the 40 & 60 Vmax and the 75 Amax. Loads were worked up with AA1680 (I have a lot of this and it is a good powder for this cartridge). Those that gave great accuracy were:

40 Vmax-13.5 gr.
60 Vmax-12.0 gr.
75 Amax-10.5 gr.

These are not max loads, but close, and accuracy was very good.
The 40 Vmax is my favorite. It easily popped through a 5/8" steel spinner at 80 yards. The 60 Vmax did too, just not as clean. The 75 Amax just disintegrated upon impact-just not enough velocity-but a heck of a "ring" and spin to the target!

Here are some Pics of the cartridge and the rifle that Evan did. Evan does excellent work. I highly recommend him for rifle work.

If this cartridge is of interest, I think it would please those that like the 22 Hornet sized round. Getting to use a 223 bolt face is a "plus" for me.
Those that like to have a rifle and handgun that shoots the same cartridge will like this as a rifle/pistol package using the Rook Island Arms 1911.

I really like the little 22 TCM!

Bill

Hmmm..might have to find a contender carbine barrel to go with the Rock Island 1911.

Rifle finished out very nice! What kind of speeds are you getting with the different weight bullets Bill?

I have not chrono'd the loads yet!
RIA claims 2900 fps in their 22inch barreled rifle they are coming out with very shortly. That is with a soft point HP 40 grain bullet-so the 40 Vmax ought to better that! It shoots and feels a lot like my CZ 22 Hornets.
When I get the chrono set up I will report the velocities. The 75 Amax is the one I am most curious about, though I don't think I will load many. I have a bunch of them though that i use in my CZ 223 9 twist. If I ever can find some of Hornady's 35 grain non-lead, I think that would be a great bullet in the TCM.
I think RIA has a winner in this cartridge-it is so versatile. Their bolt rifle is supposed to be available this month at $399 suggested Retail....I have seen it already offered for pre-order at $349. Not sure of its quality and performance though. It is made in the Philippines .

Did you luck out and get a set of dies from Ammo Warehouse or did you have the dies made?

Not Bill but I bought a set from CH4D and they're defective. Seems their whole run of dies were bad. Waiting to hear on how they're going to fix them. Ammo supply has a batch of Hornady coming in this month or thats what I was told.
