Default Burris XTR scopes

I'm considering purchase of an XTR in 3-12 X 50 for mainly spotlighting foxes , to be fitted to my Ackley H .17.To be used over 150 to 250 yards.
Just wondering if anyone on the forum has had any experience with the XTR -I have heard they have excellent optics.
Appreciate any comments , advice , good bad or otherwise.
Thanks

I have a 6-24x XTR on a heavy 220 swift rock-chuck gun and it works well.. The glass is good, I would say a little better than VX-3s for comparison but you know how that is...good glass though.. I bought mine a few years ago for long range shooting on a .308 and it worked very well for that until it found its way to a varmint rifle..Solid absolutely repeatable windage/elevation adjustments... Be conscious of the weight of them though...Personally I think they are a bit robust for a hunting rifle unless its a LR rig that is shot from a table or bipod.. I'm sure the 3-12x is a good bit lighter than 6-24x though..

Now I have to say that when I got mine out of the box two of the turret screws were rusted to where I couldn't budge them...Not something you want to see on a fairly expensive NEW scope... Burris said they'd fix it but after 3yrs I have yet to pay for the shipping and ins to have it fixed... thanks for reminding me...

I have that same scope 3-12x50 on a .308 . That is a lot of scope for a small caliber rifle. It would work nice for that but it weighs as much as your rifle .

Default Burris XTR

Thanks Al & Easy E for your helpful imput.
Appreciate its reasonably heavy for the little AH but it won't be a carry around job , primarily for spotlighting over the roof of the ute on a bi-pod.

I have a 3-12X50 XTR on a Bushmaster V-Match. Nice combination. Great glass!

I had one, I had to send back to burris over a loose eye piece. It was barely even used with less that 100 rounds thru the rifle I put it on. They hassled with me over the repair (loooong story) and I sold it upon its return. While it was a decent scope I didnt think it was worth the 600 I gave for it. I see now the XTR 3-12x30mm is pushing the 900 bone dollar amount. Personally I think your nuts spending that kind of money on a burris. I dont think they even make a scope thats worth half that!

The Zeiss Conquest 3-10x44 on midways site is 200 bucks cheaper with much better glass. While their 3.5x12 is 90 bucks more than the XTR, I dont think you would miss the extra 2x making the big step up in the quality of the Zeiss glass. You could spend 200 more and step into a Swarovski and have something that will be with you for a lifetime. I guess what I am trying to say is if your spending that kind of money there are much better choices out there than a burris. Certainly much better glass to be had for the same or even less money in some cases.
