Default New toy..........kinda' small caliber........

Today I finally got around to scoping a new toy I've had in hand for a couple of weeks. I went a different direction than I normally go with scopes (Leupold) and I bought a ZEISS HD5 3-15x42mm with an Rapid-Z 600 floating reticle in it. I think I'm going to like it. The scope is mounted in Burris Signature Z rings.

The rifle is built on a Montana Rifle Company Model 1999 action that I bought from a fellow Saubier member. The action is a stainless copy of a Winchester Model 70 CRF short action with a few refinements such as a tab button bolt release. Overall it's a very nice light weight hunting rifle action. Although MRC lists this as a short action, the mag box length is actually 3.125" which will handle a bunch of different cartridge choices.

The barrel is a #2 contour Douglas Air Gauged barrel chambered in 22-6mm Rem which should out-do my Swifts a bit in the 22 velocity category. The barrel twist is 1-12". The stock is a B&C Medalist TI II stock.

I have 50 rounds of 6MM Rem brass necked down to .224" and I plan to shoot 60 grain Sierrs HP's in the rifle which will be used as a walking varmint/target of opportunity/coyote rifle . Loading them from a Hornady manual @ 80% max load to begin with is tonight's project so I can head to the range tomorrow. Hopefully it will shoot as well as other rifles I've had barreled by the same smith who is located @ 30 minutes from my house.

Very sweet BCB! Nice clean build, all the components fit well together. I will have to keep my eye out for that action. The 3.125 mag would be sweet with the 80gr bullets in a fast twist 22/6mm.

That looks like it will ruin many a yotes day!

It's 24" long and the barrel is finished with an 11 degree target crown.

I thought about going fast twist but the idea of good velocity with a lighter bullet appealed to me most for general varminting. I've always been of a mind that if I'm going to shoot heavier bullets I'll step up one caliber notch to do it.

I have a disabled buddy that has a .22-6MM with a fast twist that he shoots a 77 grain bullet in I believe. He uses it to shoot deer and antelope with, it drops em like Thor's hammer!
If I was putting one together though I'd go 1 in 12 also and hope it looked as nice as that one. To bad Nosler dropped the old 60 grain Solid-Base bullet years back, that woulda been big time frangible in that thing for launching jackrabbits into mist!
Really nice rifle.
