Default CFE BLK and .204 40 V-Max

Silverfox,

My Vartarg OCW target for the 40 grain V-Max and CFE BLK is attached.

I chose the 18 grain load, @ about 3400 FPS, not because it was the smallest group but because it centered well vertically between the 17.8 and the 18.2 loads.

The 18 grain load has served me well on the PD's. Even though developed in 70-80 degree temps in MN, I have not experienced any high pressure issues with this barrel when fired in 90+ degree temps on the plains,

The barrel is an 11T, X-Caliber, Sendero taper.......action is a blueprinted 700 including bolt sleeves.

Worked up to and settled on 18.7 grains of H4198, Remington 7.5 primers and 32 grain V-Max in LC cases. Velocity is right around 3,800 fps and five shots @ 100 yards will be 3/8" or better off the bench. Rifle is a Cooper Model 21 with factory barrel.

Rem 7.5, LC Brass, 18.5 H4198, 32 VMax, give me 3,725 and 18.7 gives me 3775. 24" barrel for me. Accuracy is .2 or better. Slightly slower groups give better accuracy. 18.7 is MAX MAX MAX in my gun not suitable for hot days.

And that is why each one of us is responsible for working up our own loads in our own firearms.

In MY rifle, accuracy is BETTER at 18.7 than 18.5 grains. Yes, I have to keep temperatures in mind and I did have an issue with a particular lot of brass this past Summer. This combo will shoot .25" or better. The group opens up a bit due to me. If you are getting groups of .2 or better...... You're simply a better marksman than me.

I have a Rem 700 with a Lilja 1-12, 24 inch barrel. Only shoot 32 vmax. Cases are made from LC. Loading 18.5 of H4198 with 205M primer. Powder fills the case to the base of the neck. Velocity is 3750. I don't do any testing at 100 yds but at 300 it shoots consistent 1 1/4 inch groups. Pretty good prairie dog medicine.

I want to say "THANK YOU" to all you fellows who have shared load data with me. I'll post a photo or two of the rifle and share some of my results as soon as I get more test loads fired and might wait until I get the rifle out and shoot a few prairie dogs with it!!!

Default 20 VarTarg load data ??

Will be looking forward to what your rifle does like and does what you want. Load/powder in comparison to some of ours.
Know however that you will just really like that little round. It will surprise you and what and how far out it can do the job of taking down our favorite critters. Enjoy LeRoy. Bill K

Here ya go. I only shoot 39 gr and 40 gr in my Vartarg. I have a 11T PAC-Nor 24” length. Go to powder for mine is H4198 primer is CCI 450 for all loads. 18.5 gr with 39gr BK. Shoots in the 3’s. Speed is 3550 FPS. 40gr Nosler BT And 40gr Berger’s same load shoot half inch. I use mine for hunting coyotes and had splashes 75 yards and under with 39 gr. Now I only use 40 gr nosler or Berger’s. Speeds about the same as BK’s. Goin to bum up the powder 2-3 tenths and see what the groups do at 300 yards. Hope this helps.
