Sako Barrel swap?
Will a Sako L46 barrel screw into a L461 action without issues other than possible headspace?

Sako Receiver Threads

I’m not home to check till this evening but I’m pretty certain the L46 & L57 are metric threads where as the L461, L579, & L61 are not. Pretty certain someone with more experience will be along that can tell you for sure. Stan |

Sako Receiver Threads
I finally took the time to check the TPI (threads per inch) on the different Sako actions. My Bolt Action Rifles books says it this way.
Sako L-46 is 16 V TPI Sako L-57 Approx. 17 V TPI Threads at 1 1/2 MM on center Sako L-579 is 16 V TPI Sako L-61 is 16 V TPI To answer your question about swapping barrels from L46 to a L461 action, it would appear that this would work. Neither of my bolt action rifle books specifically give dimensions for the L461, just L46. I don’t know if this was something you’re doing yourself or having a gunsmith do, but please do not depend solely on my word. I do not currently have a barrel pulled from either action to double check. Stan |

Sako Barrel Swap
I have a Sako L461 chambered in 222 Mag that has a barrel that has been neglected (rusted and severely pitted) and needs replacement. I have found a L46 222 mag barrel and just wondered if it would work before I ordered it.
