I have a XP-100 basically same action sept mine is a single shot and I went the whole nine yards and put a rifle barrel on mine and went with a Lone Wolf custom stock as well and custom trigger. The dog leg bolt handle stayed on it though.. Nice actions to build off of.

The rifle shoots fantastic, looks good (to me) and I really enjoy shooting it.

could you post a photo for us ?

Default Rebarreled one to 243

Got one years ago from friend in 308. Rebarreled it to 243 for a truckgun. It is butt ugly but shoots everything we have ran through it extremely well. Love the old gun for what it was put together for.

Default Mohawk 600 x Rem 6mm

In my search, I found this REM600 Mohawk in a Rem6mm calibre
The rifle has its original iron sights (which I removed) ...orig. wood stock has it typical aged look with blemishes in the factory finish (never been redone or modified). I cleaned the barrel to find the rifling being like new.
The plastic bottom metal has buckled (deformed) as most are in these models but fits and works fine.
I can't bring myself to re-barreling this rifle and will shoot it for a while as is.

Will be trying to lighten the factory trigger which is currently about 4 lbs.
I've ordered a picitanney rail from NEAR Mfg. which will clear the recoil lug that protrudes above the barrel/action.
I found the 90 gr. Sierra GameChager at the local store and from my research it might be an interesting bullet to try out.

AlbertaAl, Your Remington 600 brings back a lot of memories. I started with a 600 (paid less than $70 for it if I recall correctly) with the plastic ventilated rib in the 1960's in 6mm Remington. I hunted deer with it in heavy wooded areas. A great handling weapon. I shot the 85 gr (old style) Nosler Partition bullet, and it was excellent on the small deer we had in Louisiana. When I went to Alaska in the late 60's I had several 600's through the 660's that I used the actions to build some very accurate target rifles for that period of time. I did take a 660 magnum 350 and re-barrel it to a necked down version of that case. It was a 30-350 Magnum which I hunted deer with for 10 years on Kodiak Island. I put a Hart barrel on it and a McMillan hunter stock and had it black chromed. One could throw it in a creek for a week and it wouldn't rust...LOL! I shot a lot of deer with that old cannon. It was a great handling rifle in the alder patches. I've owned at one time or another about every cartridge they were chambered in except the .223 (which are very rare to find). I think you will really like it, but it's not easy to get a custom stock for them anymore...just like the XP-100. A great find! 410gauge

Thanks for sharing...
I've only recently gained an appreciation for these short barreled 600/660 models. I owned alot of REM 788's but they never gave me the warm feeling that these 600/660's provide.
There is actually no problem getting replacement stocks for these models from BOYD's, MICRO FIT...even McMILLAN
TIMNEY offers triggers ...the plastic bottom metal can be upgraded to metal by a supplier. I ordered a rail from NEAR mfg. There's no end to the monies can be spent upgrading these babies.
From the many internet reviews that I've read...I've never read a negative report regarding the great accuracy that these actions are capable

Years ago in the early 1960's while my family lived in NE Wyoming, and when I was just starting to hunt deer and antelope, I wore one page out in the annual Montgomery Ward catalog. It showed an original Remington 600 carbine with the vent rib barrel in 6MM Remington selling for $99. At the time it may well have been $9K as it was out of reach for me and my family as I already had a well-worn 30-30 to hunt with. But in my mind it and the 6MM cartridge would solve any hunting need that I might ever encounter in my life.

Fast forward to maybe 7-8 years ago when one day I went into a gun shop near my home. Sitting on the shelf was a near mint condition Model 600 rifle in 6MM Remington that they had traded for. It naturally followed me home. It had a vintage Weaver K-4 scope on it in Weaver bases and rings. The scope did not adjust correctly so I replaced it and the Weaver mounts with Leupy rings and bases and topped it with a VX-3 2.5x8 Leupy scope.

Since then it has accounted for a few south Texas mangy coyotes and more than just a few jack rabbits, and it is one of my favorite old rifles. It shoots extremely well and its a definite keeper.............
