Pet Load .204
Loading some chuck loads for the .204. Using Rem 7 1/2 BR primers, Hornaday brass,8208 XBR powder and 32 gr vmax bullets. IMR shows max at 28.5gr with 32gr. I'm shooting the 35gr bergers w/27.9 gr 8208. Just wondering if anyone can tell me where the sweet spot might be with the 32 grainers. Thanks Pounder

FP, Didn't try the 8208 with the 32's but feel pretty confident that you would find a VERY SWEET SPOT using the 32's and AA2230 at somewhere between 27.8 grains and 28.3 grains! And if it is velocity PLUS accuracy you are searching for I'm pretty sure you'll find it! Or you could try the 32's and AA2520 at 28.6-29.0 grains............a bunch of 204's have around here! But the overall favorite is 27.5 grains of AA2520 and the 39 grain Sierras! Velocity and Accuracy and killing power on the far end!! I know this wasn't the original question but I just can't pass up a chance to recommend the 2230 and 2520 Accurate Powders for 204's!!! Seems like all the posts talk about 4895, Varget, 8208, whatever and no mention of a couple truly phenomenal powders in the 204!!
As to 8208, only load developement I've done with it is using the 40 grain bullets from Custom Reloading Tools (sponsor here and frequent poster). 26.7-27.3 grains. 26.7 grains yielded 3801fps and .411" aggregate for 5 (5shot)groups from a 26" Savage barrel. 27.0 was 3813 (.512") and 27.3 was 3850 .(.579") Not too shabby with any of them! I only tried one 4-shot group with the 32 gr. V-Max coated with hBN and 28.5 gr. of IMR 8208 XBR. I didn't have my chronograph set up so I don't have any clue about velocity. These were shot out of my 25" SS super match grade 1 in 11 twist Pac-Nor barrel. The group measured .580", which I thought was pretty good for a WAG load.
