If you have a 223 bushing die you can save a ton on new dies. Just buy a 20 and 17 bushing. Good for 20 practical and 17 practical. One neck or FL bushing die can do a lot of different cartridges with just a bushing change, assuming you aren't using expander balls with your bushing dies..

Making 17/223 cases ?
Quote:
steps in phase, 224 to 20 cal, then 20 cal to 17 in one step. A little more work, but you will not ruin cases, as you can/will in trying to go with just one step and the bushings. Still less money on at least three bushings, than separate dies and all. Bill K |

In various form sets that I have that reduce to 17 caliber from 22 caliber; there seems to be a die that goes down to 20 caliber in the mix. Kiinda like 22, 20,17........about 20 thousandths per reduction/shoulder move.
I sure like the specialty custom bushing dies by Bunch or Otto, but gotta be procured somehow..........kinda pricey but flexible. Guess if one made these dies themselves they would be kinda cheap after all the handwork and polishing. Yeah............they are cheap...... If one did not have the above in one way or another, one might ponder the possiblities of a 204 Ruger ots die, perhaps cut in length some. Not looked at such in detail, but might be worth the investigation, those dies probably less than 10 bucks...................if it would work from the specs etc.........just an idea thrown out with no promises. |
