Mossberg
A magazine article about the MVP .223 stated it has a scaled down action. Anyone had their hands on one? I am wondering if is just shorter or smaller in diameter and with a smaller bolt than a Savage or Remington.

It would be a decent platform for 223 based 17 or 20. Last edited by GrocMax; 11-30-2016 at 03:57 PM. |

Mossberg MVP
I've shot a MVP Varmint that a friend owns and was impressed with the features a 500.00 rifle could have. I was more impressed at what he could do with it shooting a 69gr MK. It was a legit .5-.75 5-shot rifle and I'm not talking 1 group and thump your chest and post it on the net. His had a Colt 10 round mag sticking out of it. He's also got a MVP model that shoots a 308, looks like a AR? I haven't shot that one but he says it will dog pile 168gr MK's right on top of one another. He's headed for a showdown with another friend of ours that has a Savage mdl 11 Hog Hunter in 308...the battle of the 500.00 rifles.

Yes the 308 model uses a little bit bigger action and uses 1.00"-20 threads no tenon with a barrel nut, AR10 mags.

I have one of the 5.56 versions with a 18" threaded bbl. I put in and aftermarket aluminum magwell and trigger guard which tightened up everything. I also got and action wrench and receiver block to be able to switch out the 5.56 bbl over to a 16.5" .300 Blackout barrel.
I figure I will eventually get a better .223 barrel but for now the factory barrel is great. Found a load using 50 gr. VMAX bullets that gives me sub 0.5 MOA so I am happy with it and figure I can use it until it starts to drop off. Here is a pic with the 5.56 barrel, 4x12 scope and a 10 rd Lancer mag in : |

Intel6-
I have a 223AI 10 twist 24" X-caliber to fit the MVP 5.56 with about 400 rds down it I want to sell. I'm converting mine to 20 Prac. Priced to sell, msg me if interested. This barrel shot MUCH better than the factory one. There is a constriction in the forend of the varmint stock that will need to be enlarged. |
