Ray, what is your opinion of the 20 Boomer compared to say the 20 Mink. As you know I've been fooling around some with the 20 Mink in the field for ground squirrels out west. I really like it so far. I know you are a fan of 40 degree shoulders (me too!), but would it be worth a change to something like the 20 Boomer? Just curious. Dave

Dave I did a quick check and my 20 Mink holds around 9.0 gr of H380 to base of neck. The 20 Boomer holds 11.3 gr of H380 to base of neck. I wish I had some velocities to tell you but don't. The 20 Mink is a very easy case to make. Short cases can be tricky to feed. I went with a SA 700 with a cone nose bolt. I fitted a LA follower so the case goes straight in. The coned breech greatly helps. I can toss the 20 Boomer in any where on the follower and close the bolt. It is more work to make the 20 Boomer and possible the case will last longer but I still like the 20 Mink though. Don't over look the 20 Ack Hornet if you want a little larger case, it holds 12.2 gr of H380 to base of neck. Hope this helps a little. Maybe one of each?????

Ray, thanks for the info. Hadn't thought about the 20 AH. I'm thinking something between the Mink and the 20VT. I just finished up making a 1000 20 Mink cases and loading them up. Whew...enough work for me! The 20 AH should be easy to make. Dave

Thanks for measuring that up, Ray. I just checked an RP Hornet case to my seating depth and got 12.7gr. H380. That is the useable space in that case for my loads.
A .17AH in an RP case held 13.3gr. and with the WW case 12.2gr. to the base of the neck which is where I seat those bullets, ie: their usable space.

Daryl- that is quite a difference between Rem and W-W . My 17AH W-W hold the same as yours. One of these days I need to try some Rem.

Dave, you may want to also consider Ray's 20 Gopher, a 20 Garin (30 Carbine parent) or 20 Ackley Bee. Each are in the area of 3,600 fps with a 32 gr. bullet. If you want a little slower/quieter, then you have Ray's 20 Boomer or a 20 Shrew to consider as well. Don

Don, thanks for the info. I'll take a look at those 20's. I like the 20 Gopher. The big thing for me with the 20 Mink is how quiet and little barrel heat it has. I been able to just keep shooting it in the field. My other 20's (even the 20VT) I haven't been able to do that. I do wish the Mink had a little more range...it's excellent between 175-225 yds. I've made a couple of shots around 230-250 yds on ground squirrels...but that has been about it. I getting about 3240 fps with the 26 gr Barnes Varmint Grenade. Dave

LOL now if you could get ammo for it well then that wouldn't be a bad price?
