If you find a 357 mag barrel and want to ream it out to a max I'll loan you my Manson reamer. I just built a max but I'm waiting to get paid before I buy bullets so I can shoot it.

Default Illinois Deer beware

Thanks for the offer Aaron. And thanks to everyone who replied. It looks like I am going to have another go at the 45/70! There will be a 16” 45/70 barrel coming to live at my house.

SEM, your advice will be heeded. I will likely load this just fast enough to keep the bullets from bouncing off a deer. Maybe between the long barrel and downloaded ammo I can avoid getting beat up too badly this time.

Again, thanks for all the offers and advice.

Default TC Contender barrel

Can the 45-70 be any worse, for a better term, than my 15 inch 375 JDJ ? With a good set of grips and the muzzle brake it is very manageable and fun to shoot. And it does put down deer and coyotes, with the 270 to 300 grain sp's. You may well enjoy that 45-70. Hope so. Bill K
