I'll be following this thread for my upcoming new 20 VarTarg build. I bought an 8 pound jug of IMR8208XBR for use in my .17 Remingtons and my .204 Rugers and it would be nice it it worked in the 20 VarTarg too. I also have 3 pounds of H4198 which seems to be one of the go-to powders for 32 gr. bullets in the VarTarg.

Default 8208br & 20VT

Do not overlook AA2200 in the 20VT, one of the best for accuracy and velocity. Bill K

I didn't like 8208 in my vartarg. It did fair with 39grain Sierra but I couldn't find a good load for the 32 Vmax which I prefer in the vartarg. I just went back to H4198 and great groups.

In my 204 the 8208 is great with the 39 gr Sierra, decent with the 35 gr Bergers then goes south with any 32 gr.

It's my powder of choice in .204 also. High velocity and high accuracy, a nice combo.

I use 8208 in my 20 Extreme with great results on both the 40 & 55 grain Bergers. I stocked up on it when I had the chance. I've also used H4198 on a short barrel 20 Extreme with 40 grain V-max getting good results as well

Mark, I use 8208 in the 20VT using 32gr bullets. Start out at 19.0gr...I ended up at 19.4gr of 8208, 32gr vmax or blitzkings and Rem. 7 1/2 BR primers. Very accurate load combo for me in my rifle. Accurate 2200 is also a very good powder as others have stated. Be safe on working up a load.

Thank You Mark

Mark, I was getting 3642fps with that load. Other powders such as H4198 and Accurate 2200 give higher velocities and are very good powders for the VT. I use about all the various powders because I have some of each and it needs used...RL7, H4198, RL10x, A2200, IMR8208...all of these produce very accurate loads. In my opinion, A2200 is the best but everyones rifle will vary. Here is a link to some load data that might be helpful.
