That's an Ultra Wildcat sold by H&R that has been custom stocked. It is not anything near an original Sako anything. H&R imported Sako L461 actions , without the dovetailed receivers, back in the late 60's early 70's & sold the rifles they assembled off the Sako actions. The seller is in la la land @ $1200 +. That's a $600 to $700 dollar rifle MAX!!! Nice wood, but NOT checkered, NOT Sako, & NOT worth much more than the action is worth. I would offer $400 for it for the action if I REALLY wanted to build a custom off of it. Otherwise , there are better REAL Sakos out there that you can buy for a lot LESS!!!

Just haveing the H&R stamp on the barrel makes it worth a 1000.00. min..
One of the very few H&R's sold that has any value... Whats the going price of a Sako action?? 5-700.00??? |

It looks to me..........
.......to be an H&R model 317 round-top L461 barrelled action, that was put in a "custom" stock.
In 1975 and 1976 H&R imported the entire barrelled action from Sako, and then stamped the H&R info. on the barrel(only available in 222, 223, and 17 Rem). From 1968 to 1974 H&R just imported the dove-tailed L461 action, and then added a U.S. made barrel.......rumored to be from Douglas. Too bad it's not in the original model 317 stock..............to me, the "custom" stock was not very well executed. BTW......they even mounted the Conetrol bases backwards. Guess I need to take inventory of all the 317 barrels, that I bought from Navy Arms years ago. Just my $0.02 Kevin |

After the comments and a closer look I think somthing is wrong. It says a barreled action intended to be an Ultra Wildcat. That would mean a 17/223 no? It says it is a .223.
Either it was just an action and barreled in .223 by an unkown maker or this is a .17/223 and the seller doesn't know what it is. And I agree with you Kevin that stock takes away alot from the gun. (and by the way you wouldn't by chance want to part with one of those 317 barrels would you?) |

Ultra Varmint
The Ultra Varmints were not limited to 17-223's and as for the value of the action alone, more like 450-550. That piece of wood inletted to fit that action is worth 150 by itself. Regardless it doesn't add up to the starting price. Just about any clean L461, original or not, in the form of a complete rifle is going to bring north of700 on a auction site or classified's such as GA. He drops that price to 850-900 with the scope it's going to sell if it's the original untampered barreled action, maybe even a little more. Only thing unattractive about that rifle is that pignose forearm tip and the price.
