I shoot them in my hornet's with LIL GUN and CFE-BLK. Not exclusively, but, on occasion. I would not use them in any of my .223's unless I was deliberately sub-sonic.

Just my 2 cents. rch

Made me think back to the days of seeing a page full of a bunch of your load data with whatever cartridge you was playing and posting different load combos of powder, primers and bullets. I was like a school kid taking notes for an important exam.
Sometimes though (after careful consideration) I would just have to find out for myself. Those are good memories and still make me feel very grateful for all your great small caliber contributions and having patience with the new kid who didn’t know very much about small calibers.

I like Foxhunters answer, they just flat out suck, lol

OK, I will only use them in reduced trailboss loads then.

And don't forget that Remington had a production problem with 6.5 primers several years ago (with the two legged anvils), and had a bunch of recalls and rifle repairs because of that. Many pierced primers.

IIRC, that was with the Remmy 2-legged 7.5 primers..........

Welp, went out an bought a couple boxes of CCI 450 and BR4. Hope those will be ok. By the link BCB directed me to it does show the BR4 having a bigger cup diameter. Have any of yall tried either of those primers in your .221fb?

Jingle, I have used WSR, CCI 450, BR-4 and Rem 7.5 in 221FB and 223 without problems or issues, except occasional unavailability.

BCB, Remington had quality issues with both 6.5 and 7.5 back a few years ago.

just curious, what is/are the issues with 6-1/2s? Other than the QC issues.

I have tried them out in my 17 CCM and 17 squirrel as well as some pistol primers. While I can’t say that I found anything bad about them, I couldn’t find a good reason to use them and just stayed with the Winchester’s.

Gary any pressure at all and the primers will blank (poke a hole ) thru them and gas will escape back thru the bolt. sometimes you will have to disassemble the bolt to remove the little round piece of metal that came out of the hole. it can get in the way of the firing pin or in the trigger so the rifle won't fire. not worth the aggregation to me . I filled a cup with them and w-40 them. hope this answers your question.

they are probably ok in a 17 ccm as the head will expand before pressure reaches the blanking point.

This can happen with any small caliber high intensity cartridge with a very rapid pressure spike. The issue is not a fault of the primer itself, rather it's a mis-application of where to use a certain primer.
