Default Whew!

Took me awhile to get through 24 pages even stopping only at the pics. Man oh Man, I guess that's what you get when you take a 500.00 Mauser and say, "there's no budget, shrink it and make everything by hand". All the work looks top-notch. I kinda cringed when they took a 200.00 set of Kimber Oregon quick release rings and used them as donors

That is incredible. I bet it cost more to do that one, than all of mine put together

It is too bad, he didn't make it a cool chambering like 17AH, Mink, squirrel, or something like that.

It's good to see there are two very good smiths - both metal and wood - at work on that project.

This is the first example of full custom work being done in quite awhile on the internet. Work like this used to be routinely done on good quality Mauser actions. When all the metal work was done, it was hard to imagine that the action was once a military plane-jane 98. It's a far cry from the new barrel and McMillan stock "customs" you typically see on the internet today....

IMO, the quarter rib and the stripper clip slot cut in the cleaned up receiver are extremely nice custom touches along with the bottom metal, the side swing safety, and the custom sights. All indeed excellent work...

All in all, very nice full custom work, including the old English style stock and the checkering pattern.... The pattern looks similar to an old Monty Kennedy American Classic style pattern... And it sounds like it was all done at a VERY REASONABLE price for that kind of work.

The pics of the cut 98 Mauser action seen in the thread shows very nice custom work also. Both are nice projects not frequently seen in this day of new barrels and plastic stocks being called a custom rifle....
