There it is! My CZ shoots like crazy with the 40's too and it's a 1 in 12. now I got a hankering to try some heavier bullets in it .

I have an older Cooper M21 and a CZ527 in 221 FB. The Cooper is 1:14, which I have verified, but I have never checked the CZ. The M21 will fairly consistently shoot in the 3's (when I am paying attention) with 40VMAX or 40BT, and even Sierra 45 SPT. The CZ is not far behind, regularly in the 4's and 5's, but not as easy to shoot from a rest, and that may be the major accuracy difference between them.

What powder
I was shooting some Hornady 45gr .224 Hornet bullets, they shot OK. I'm thinking of getting some 40 V-max's now. What powder and load do you guys reccomend for my CZ, 221 FB?

I have a Rem 700 lvsf in .221 fireball with 1 in 12 twist. My go to load is 19.0 of Reloader 7 under 40 gr Vmax bullets.

Lil gun, pushed to max over a CCI 400. In this gun max is right around 16.5 grains. I think there are just short of the lands, but I haven't confirmed that. I've just gone by his dummy round.
Thanks, Rick |

Powder is a personal choice but this was posted here a while back and I copied it.
Another old favorite is RL7 but in my CZ while accurate it was slow. I use AA1680 under 40 grain V-Max's or BlitzKings. "If" there were such a thing as a magic powder in a cartridge in the .221 it would be AA1680 IMO. I load under that book max in my CZ and about that listed 40 grain velocity is what it chrono's (go figure ). Sub half inch groups help with the giggle factor as well .
