You're talking x28mm, not 29 to start with.
5.7 FNH, or 5.7 x28mm FNH Re: FiveSeven is another version of the name Haven't read a "name" for the 20 though. Foxhunter named his: .17x28 the: Velociraptor, IF that's what you're referring to.

5.7x29
I stand corrected and newly informed. Each time I shoot a few hundred sage rats with the 17HMR, and at 20 cents plus per pop, I get to feeling that I'm missing out on the reloading part. Not that it matters, but what is the difference in powder capacity between the 17HMR and the 5.7 x 28, and what kind of velocity can one expect from the 5mm x 28 shooting the lighter 20 cal bullets.
Thanks guys. |

Quote:
The 17 HMR has a case capacity of 8.1 grs of powder, = 17gr bullet @2400 fps, the 20 Kit Fox, (slightly small CC than the 5mmx28 case) has a CC of 9.9 gr of powder and drives a 32gr bullet at over 3300fps+ from 24" BBL. 17 Kit Fox has 10.0 grs and runs a 17gr bullet 3700fps+ from 24" bbl, load depending. This was the reason I designed the Kit Fox series, along with the others here that built and designed similar sized cases, we have CHEAP RELOADABLE centerfires that are better than any rimfires + better performance etc, best of both worlds. AT 200-300rds per night thinning the sage rabbits from the hay fields, proved to be cost prohibitive (17HMR= $19.00 p/50rds) for the job required, =the reason for the small reloadable centerfires, which are cheaper to use than the 17 HMR. The farmers/ranchers also like the fact that there is NO ZINGING BULLETS (Safety factor) using this type of bullet/ammo combo's, compared to the standard rimfires. Don

5.7x28 wildcats
NVRELOADER. Thanks for the information. Before factory guns were available I had built a 17HMR on a Rem 581. I sent it off to Brian Voelker in Iowa. Starting with a 17 Rem barrel, he parted off the chamber, then threaded the action and barrel. I ended up with a single shot but OH what fun I had that next summer. Calhoun has plans for converting the Rem 580 series to center fire so, now again, "I feel the need-the need for speed" but from a small case. What type of actions are you using for the 5.7 based wildcats?
Thanks again, Art |

All my actions are 591/592 as they have the longer ejection port, I have a 582 (was a 22 Hornet) and it is being converted into the 22 Short Tail Weasel case as we speak, (PTG just sent the new reamer), and ALL are Single shots, =1S1K. 22 ST Weasel is 1.000" long, 8.0gr CC and run a 35gr bullet at 2600fps+ from a 24"bbl, powder/load depending, per QL estimates, can't wait to finish so I can twist it's tail to see the chrono results. 1 lb of powder should give me 845+ rds for $20.00.
