17 Mach IV body and case form die neck dia.
Could anybody tell me the neck diameter of the 17 Mach IV body die and also for the 17 Mach IV case forming die? Also, does one or the other size the case body smaller?
Thanks for your help. |

The 17M4 body die...
... could be considered a full length bushing die without the bushing. I'm not where I can measure mine, but essentially I think you are asking if the 17M4 and the 221 FB neck end openning are the same. Interesting question.
Meanwhile, exactly which dies do you mean. I went nuts over the 17M4 for a long time and bought just about every type of die available, including the form and trim dies, fl standard and neck bushing dies, standard and bushing neck dies, etc. Other than potentially being as screwed up as I am, why do you want to know? I plan on using the 17M4 forming die to form 20VT brass from 204 brass after running them through a 221 FL die, then after neck turning, use the same 17 M4 forming die to size the fired cases.I'm looking to custom turn the necks to give a loaded round @ .229 to work in a .232 neck/chamber.I can't answer as to which die sizes more/less.Adam Bennet makes allot of 20VT brass from 223 using the two dies I have.

Years ago when I was reloading for my new Cooper in .17MkIV I had a hell of a time final-form sizing cases to fit chamber using a Body die and a Full Length "S" type die, so I bought a standard F/L die and cases slid into the chamber like they were buttered.
Larry PS - Like Alex I think I now have every type of reloading die made for the .17MkIV. That’s what I get for being so damn anal retentive.

my redding body die forms case necks to .199, hope this answers half your question. i use the body die to form cases, i don't have form/trim die.

Sorry I have not got back to this sooner. Have been experiencing technical difficulties I love dragging my computer to the shop and waiting for a fix!
Foxhunter, Thank you for the information on the body die. I still would appreciate anyones input on what the neck dia. of a case run through the form die comes out at. On a side note, If the form die is necking to .199 or so, why would it be used to form 20vt brass? My 221 body die necks at .258, 223 body die necks the same. My 20vt body die necks to .232 and my 17 mach IV FL bushing die less bushing sizes to .210 So what does the 17 Mach IV case forming die size the neck to? |

Jim,
Thank you very much for the information on the rcbs form die. Does any one have the dimensions for the redding form die? I have an oddball chamber I am trying to mix and match dies for minimal sizing of my brass. |
