SDguy605,
The barrel is an original CZ Varmint type barrel. The rifle started life as a 17 Remington CZ527 Varmint model, which the previous owner had Bob Green re-chamber to 17 Fireball. Bob has stamped his logo and caliber information on the barrel alongside ".204 Neck" stamped for the neck info for the new 17 F/B chamber. Below is a copy-out from the CZ-USA web site regarding length and twist.

The CZ 527 VARMINT in .17 Remington is fitted with a 24”, 1 in 9 twist heavy barrel. The new rifle retains all of the features that made the 527 famous, from its controlled round feed, claw extractor to its single set trigger, and hammer forged barrel. Scope mounts are integrated into forged, square bridge receiver (rings not included).

The barrel is a straight taper from 1.000" at the action to 0.700" at the muzzle. It now measures 22 7/8" from muzzle end to the front of the action with the barrel installed. I would guess that the barrel uninstalled would now measure 23 1/2" chamber end to muzzle end due to some shortening needed for the caliber change by Bob. It also now has a .221 Fireball magazine installed in place of the 17 Rem mag and the action has been glass bedded. Hope this helps. Regards, Charlie

Oh for the days.

We spent many hours making Mach IV brass from 223 to fit those long chambers
in the Mach IV and loved every minute of it. Kenny

I agree Sicero, I make my .17FB cases from WCC07 5.56 and get great satisfaction doing it. Great accuracy and case life at 4023 fps MV with the 25 gr. V-Max! The Chucks hate it. Remington primer pockets don't hold up to this. Perhaps if I needed 1K for Prairie Dogs I would reconsider.
