I'll get one powder and work it to death. Toss up between AA 2460 and AA 2230. They both work great in everything I shoot.
20 VT "short", 20 VT, .221 Fireball, 22 BR, 6 BR, 6.8 BR Wildcat, 6.8 SPC, .223 and .308 in the gas guns. Works good in all of them. Throw in a little bit of Lil Gun at times for the smaller stuff, just to see how it works. All will produce bug holes.
My guess is most folks that have a BIG selection of different powders don't really know the potential of each. Work it till you can't get anymore out of it.
Went thru about 40 pounds of AA 2230C till they quit making it anymore then, back to AA 2230. A good standby powder along with the AA 2460 that is just a bit slower.
When it comes to reloading components, you get what you can, when you can.

Nor Cal Mikie; Thanks Your right, I have not pushed 1680 to the limit yet, I can get more in and will. Got some good news my powder guy is getting Lil Gun in a week or so. I've had great luck it in 17 HH, the guys say its great in 22 Hornet the 20 Boomer fits right there. I want to try some 300 MP also but can't find any. Thanks to all! sgtg out

Default 20 Boomer Reamer

Did you form your own reamer for the 17 & 20 Boomer?

RebelHornet ; I ran a 20 Tactical reamer short, then used a .187 heavy metal boring bar and a 14 inch NC lathe and cut the body and shoulder to .373-.365 X .610 long, 40 deg. shoulder. I've been told, you can't do that but it makes a nice chamber to whatever I want. sgtg out

Some guys have ALL the good stuff. I only wish.
Looks to me like you're on a roll.

Default 20 tcm

sgtg; Thank you for the info. I am planning a 20 TCM build and was thinking along the same lines. I was going to keep the shoulder angle factory and just neck it down to .20 cal. Am I wrong in thinking I can run a 20 Practical reamer short? Then shorten some Redding bushing dies along with a .204 decapping rod? Thoughts?

Default 20 tcm

Ya its not that simple, running a reamer in short will be way small on the base of the cartridge and the die the same. It takes some work after short reaming. Your 5 miles away in Payson PM me and we'll hook up , I go shoot nearly every Saturday. Come on out and shoot one (17 or 20 TCM/Boomer) then if you just gotta have one, may be we could work something out. sgtg out

Nor Cal Mikie; I loaded 13.4 (max so far was 12.8) of AA1680 and started getting some pressure signs, shot in my bullet trap so I don't speed yet but I'm betting I'll like it. I'm still going to try Lil Gun, but your right I'm glad I tested further and I will know what 1680 will do. Also yes it is nice to have good equipment to make guns and stuff. Thank you and all for the input, its what makes this site awesome. sgtg out

Waskawood; That was the 20 Boomer, I am going to recut the 17 Boomer Friday so its body dimensions are the same as the 20 Boomer. Two reasons for that, I'm
not sure how many shots the old chamber/throat had (in the 17) so I'll move the throat/chamber back a little (freshen throat) and cut the chamber to .365-.373 like the 20, then I can use the same bushing type die for both. I know I'm mad MAD!! sgtg out
