Default Should I Get a New B-Mag for $199?

I can purchase a new Savage B-Mag for $199 at a local gun store. I hear the gun isn't that great (some seem to be good and some don't), but for $199, it seems hard to pass up. Should I pick one up for this price, or is it a waste of money?

The price reflects the quality... don't waste your money. Several guys I know that have one are not happy and one buddy works at the local SW and he says customers frequently come in complaining about them.

Your $199 can be better spent. Worked on & sighted in several for others & I wouldn't give $1.99 for one. Just MHO.

I concur. Doesn't take long to realize why they're so cheap.

If you're ok with 3" groups at 100 yds., and ammo more expensive than .223 centerfire, go for it.

Default NO

It was a long time after introduction (of the B Mag) before I ever saw any ammo. I wanted to try one but.... Its not been fun being at the mercy of ammo manufacturers for 22 LR, 17 HMR, I would not trust them on a B Mag. sgtg out

Default Should I get a new B-Bag

I would say get a decent 17HH or 17 FB and live happily ever after. Bill K

I would agree as an owner of a Bmag and a 17HH but there are places with limits on centerfire for hunting

The groups on my second Bmag are about 1.25 at 100

To be honest, and from my perspective only, give recent experience with the 17 Mach2, the 5 MM, and given the current price of 17 HMR and the price of some of the 22 RF (at least we aren't short of supply if you are willing to pay the price) I am getting to the point that if I can't load for it myself I am not very interested.

There have been so many new rounds launched of late that get dropped within a couple of years that I am starting to have very little faith in the gun and ammo makers commitments to their products, especially RF since I can make them myself when they quit making it. At least dropping the 17 FB doesn't mean I have to quit shooting it.

I will always have 22 Rim Fires, but I have been seriously debating selling my Mach 2 due to sporadic availability of ammo and the chance it could go out of production any time and HMR because of ammo price. I can load 17 HH, 22 H and 17 FB for the same price as HMR cost these days and with the Dillon it doesn't take long to crank out 500 rounds.

Like I said, just one guys perspective.

I was kind of depressed today until I read this. I didn't think I was paid much for the work I do, but I can buy quite a bit of ammo for what I make in an hour. So reloading Is more expensive for me than buying ammo across the counter. Wait a second, you all don't figure your time in to the equation of reloading costs. Never mind!

Castafly- at $199, I think I would take the gamble. Even though it is hit or miss, some of the B-mags shoot quite well. I think Eric got a good one, and to tell you the truth, I think they are shooting about as well as the 5mm Remington rifles did. I think the 17HMR set a standard that that will be hard to beat and that is what people are expecting out of the 17WSM and that is not happening.
