For anybody that has used 22 cal 40gr vmaxes, where have you found they shoot best at? I'm trying to get a general consensus on how far off the lands they prefer.

I always start a Vmax at .020 off. Move in or out .003, but usually .020 is tough to beat.

I start 0.020-0.025 and seat deeper for field loads, or mag length and move in.

So what distance off ends up giving best accuracy?

Are you shooting these 40gr Vmax in a custom chambered gun that has little to zero freebore because if this is a factory gun it's not likely you'll be able to reach the lands without the bullet falling out of the case.

yeah, it's a custom chamber, I don't have a problem touching the lands. I was hoping to hear what has worked for other people whether they could touch or not.

Last time I loaded these, a Savage 112 in 223. I quit testing at 0.026 from touching, it yielded repeated groups that shots all touched. Seemed good enough for prairie dog. Almost all my shooting is hunting related, so I never load into or touching. I have to be able to unload a live load and rechamber without length changes.

Scale 1:1 The fine grid is 1/4". -
