Default Alliant 300 MP in 22 K-Hornet

I've been meaning to do this for a long time and finally loaded up some ammo to answer my nagging questions. The short answer it works great. High velocities and low SDs. The 14.0 gr. load punched a nice sub-0.5 MOA group.

It's a Ruger 77/22 VHZ Hornet with a 24" barrel that was reworked and rechambered by CPC.

Hi Johnly, I have been using 300MP for several years, and singing its praises from time to time, too. I have loaded with H110/W296, LG, SW SBR-SOCOM, AA1680, SW Blackout and CFE BLK and got my best results with 40 grain bullets using 300MP. My load is 13.25gr with 40 gr bullet of your choice and small primer of your choice. This load runs around 1325FPS out of my Cooper 38 in warm weather using Rem brass and hs given me 1/4" 5-shot groups from time to time. In the W-W cases I would recommend no more than 13.0grs in warm weather. I tried some 14.0gr loads in the Cooper several years ago that seemed OK when I was working up the loads but proved a bit too hot shooting PD's in June, so don't do what I did and load 500 rds this time of year thinking it would still be good to go come PD season.

My latest foray into a new powder is Shooters World SBR-SOCOM, not a name I particularly like because I am not into the tacticool crowd, but performance wise it may be the best powder I've come across yet for K-Hornet, 22 Spitfire and my own 22SJ. It gives good case fill, burns pretty clean, good velocity & accuracy and the SD's are running in the 12fps range in my K-Hornet on down to 8fps in the Spitfire and SJ. If you can find any of this powder it is definitely worth getting some and trying it. I am running 16.0grs with 40gr bullet in W-W cases in my K-Hornet and getting about 3150fps. Keep us posted.
